Doctor's Appointments

Well, I've had 3 doctors' appointments since Friday, so I thought it would be good to update everyone.

Friday I had two appointments. The first was with the dietician, which was not one I was looking forward to. My blood sugar had been pretty controlled, but after the last round with the dietician, I wasn't too excited to go again! But this time I met with just the assistant, who was a lot more polite. And, since my blood sugar was so controlled, she said that I didn't have to come back! So that was a major YAY! :)

My second appointment on Friday was with Dr. Boulicault, my regular OB. I'm seeing her every two weeks, although I think that might be increased to every week fairly quickly. Everything went pretty well there, she took a look at my blood sugar record, too, and said it looked good. I had a few high readings, but they were pretty easy to track (one was because I ate a piece of cake at my baby shower, the other because I didn't realize a Panera sourdough roll had 38 grams of carbs) so she wasn't worried. And I actually lost 4 pounds since my last appointment. Not that my stomach is getting any smaller, that's FOR SURE! But I guess I lost weight from everywhere else. Anyway, overall it was a positive appointment.

My last appointment was today, it was my weekly ultrasound/non-stress test. Today they checked my cervix, too, to see if the placenta had moved. Anyway, the ultrasound was fun... seeing Elena on the screen, moving around, doesn't really ever get old. Although, she was not really moving too much today, apparently we caught her during naptime, because she was not cooperating. They had to use the buzzer on her twice, and the technician did a lot of poking with the ultrasound thing, but she still didn't want to move around. The picture I got only shows half of her face because she was holding her hands in front of it. It's pretty cute... Anyway, then I did the non-stress test, and she moved a little, but not nearly as much as last week (they couldn't keep her heartbeat monitor on her because she moved too much). Then I got to talk to Dr. Grant. He is the ultrasound/high risk pregnancy guru. Anyway, he said that my non-stress test looked good, but that I was having small contractions. I guess it's pretty normal after 34 weeks, and since I'm 33 weeks and 5/7 days, he wasn't too worried about it. But the big news of the day was that, although the placenta hasn't moved (it's still like 1/2 a centimeter from my cervix) he didn't think that it was so close that I would have to have a c-section. So that made my day, because, although I know a c-section wouldn't be the end of the world, I'd like to have a regular birth.

So there's my update from the last few appointments... it's actually refreshing that today's appointment was the only one for me this week! And next week I have two, but on the same afternoon. I guess that's just what I get for being a high risk pregnancy! Here's hoping the birth is smoother than the pregnancy! :)
